Business partner Paul Roberts sponsors Youth Company bursaries

Having been trading for 40 years, Canterbury property developer Paul Roberts is celebrating with an inspiring opportunity - offering bursaries to aspiring young actors.

Paul Roberts has pledged to support 10 full bursaries for The Marlowe Youth Company, allowing more young people to hone their theatre making skills and removing barriers to the performing arts.

With a passion for promoting Canterbury and making the city an excellent place to live, Paul has been a proud supporter of the Canterbury arts scene for many years. As part of this, as well as being one of The Marlowe’s Business Partners, his company was a founding corporate partner of The Marlowe Youth Company and has continued to sponsor the scheme for nine years.Writer Glenn Tillin directs the cast of Wojtek. He is knelt on the stage, and the cast are sat on the floor.

The Youth Company enables young people aged between seven and 17 years old to express themselves and meet like-minded peers during weekly workshops. Through learning about theatre making, the sessions also build valuable life skills such as collaboration and self-confidence.

It is these life-enhancing opportunities that Paul Roberts hopes the bursaries will offer. He said: “Having seen the positive outcomes that being involved in the performing arts can bring in my own family, I recognise the life skills that these experiences equip our young people with.”

“As a business owner in Canterbury, I’ve seen the impact The Marlowe has had on the region and am a passionate advocate for the participation opportunities the theatre provide for young people.”
