Cape Town Opera Presents
The Gershwins' Porgy And Bess
MAIN AUDITORIUM
The show is done with such verve that you need a heart of concrete not to come out smiling. Especially as many voices are sensational. THE TIMES
Summertime and the livin' is easy…
Featuring the timeless songs Summertime, It Ain't Necessarily So and I Loves You Porgy, the internationally renowned Cape Town Opera present their critically acclaimed production of The Gershwins’ masterpiece Porgy And Bess.
One of the greatest shows in the history of American music theatre, Porgy And Bess is a moving and joyous story about the search for hope and happiness. Originally set in 1920s America, this hugely affecting, large-scale production, relocates this classic story to the townships of Soweto.
Featuring a tremendous cast of over 50 singers, accompanied by a 45-piece orchestra, by arrangement with Welsh National Opera, this wonderful production visits The Marlowe first, before its residency at The London Coliseum.

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH
A moving and memorable performance.
MAIL ON SUNDAY
Porgy is an opera that showcases the chorus, and Cape Town's is quite magnificent. The spirituals towards the opera's end set my spine tingling.
