Glyndebourne Tour 2012 presents

The Yellow Sofa

THE MARLOWE STUDIO

A new opera by Julian Philips, with a libretto by Edward Kemp.

A tale of sex, a city and the seductive power of furniture.

Adapted from a novella by one of Portugal's best loved writers, Eça de Queiros, The Yellow Sofa tells the story of Godofredo Alves, a small businessman who comes home from work one day to find his wife in the arms of his best friend and business partner. He determines at once to seek revenge.

The Yellow Sofa is an intimate new opera for 10 voices and 14 players. It is an original Glyndebourne commission and was written by the company’s first Composer in Residence, Julian Philips, in 2009.

Sung in English.
