"If you produce your own work as a theatre, the building will have an entirely different feel. It will feel alive and beating, it makes it more than bricks and mortar. It's the life-blood of theatre." - Simon Mendes da Costa, The Marlowe Theatre Literary Associate
As part of our commitment to new writing we have developed the Roar! programme, in conjunction with our partners, including Soho Theatre and Paines Plough, both of whom have an extensive history of developing new writing.
Roar! helps writers develop plays they're working on, through mentoring and allowing them to work with actors, so they can hear their words being spoken. It focuses on plays with real potential to be produced in the UK.
Roar! began in earnest in 2016, with two plays being given the full treatment, including a week of intensive work with a director and cast, each week culminating in a rehearsed reading in The Marlowe Studio, attended by staff from The Marlowe and our partners.
